I am a clinical psychologist and got my first degree at the University of Stirling in Scotland. I completed my professional training at the University of Bergen here in Norway in 2011, and also my PhD in 2020. I have worked as a council psychologist for several years, working with mental health challenges ranging from life crisis situations to depression, anxiety, stress and burnout. I work with people aged 16 and up, and also have experience with mental health issues common in older adults.
As a therapist I seek to support each person to mobilise their inherent resources to find and live a good life. Some arrive with a clearly demarcated issue they want to work on. For others, we pave the road as the terapeutic process progresses – and this can equally be the right way to proceed. Understanding and trusting yourself to create lasting change can result from working for the past and present to coexist with fewer intrusions from the former, as well as from working with specific coping strategies.
Much of my work has been cognitive-behavioural, and I often think it meaningful to examine how our thoughts and actions affect our wellbeing. At the same time, I hold that emotions and values are perhaps our most important life compass. I also believe the body has an important place in work to improve mental health. In line with my humanist world view, I seek to provide a safe space for you to bring whatever is of the most importance to you. Get in touch via email or phone, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I am also an engaged public speaker and educator, and have successfully delivered workshops and talks to a variety of audiences. Knowledge about mental health can be made accessible and understandable to all. Do not hesitate to contact me if this can be of interest to your business or workplace.
